Joy

I'm doing poetry this month in case you missed the first post.

It's when you laugh long after the joke is over,
When across your face a perpetual smile hovers
Reminiscing about a memory sweet,
a day with people you'd love to meet
again; a smile that starts with your eyes,
and one that doesn't die,
even after the sun goes down
and darkness creeps over your little town.

It's when you catch yourself staring at infinity
mind drifting away from your 'perfect' city
to a place that once was home sweet home
a town that you wanted to escape from
but are still haunted by memories
that beg your return.

The words took an unexpected turn at the end of the first stanza. Truth be told joy given by our own is greater than any joy in this world.

  3. beautiful! Sometimes memories are all we have about a place, and when we actually do return, it's no longer the same...cutting the joy. Sometimes it's best to just remember.
